[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] LIG Nex1 received the Minister of National Defense Award for its contribution to creating jobs in the Korean defense industry.
LIG Nex1 announced on the 30th that it received the Minister of National Defense Award as the ‘Best K-Defense Industry Job Creation Award’ at the ‘2022 Herald Job Awards’ ceremony held at the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry on the 29th.
Now in its fifth year, the Job Awards encourage companies that have increased jobs and improved employment quality despite rapidly changing economic conditions and complex domestic and international crises, reflecting the latest trends in ESG, new industries, future talents, startups, and various other fields.
The newly established ‘Best K-Defense Industry Job Creation Award’ this year was awarded to LIG Nex1, which has taken the lead in creating jobs in the defense sector. LIG Nex1 was recognized for its efforts to significantly contribute to job creation by hiring more personnel across various fields than in previous years.
LIG Nex1 has been evaluated as leading employment growth by increasing jobs despite difficult conditions.
An official from the company said, “This year, just as we emerged from the prolonged tunnel of COVID-19, we faced unprecedented difficulties with high inflation and soaring prices, leading to a management crisis and increasing corporate burdens. Despite these challenges, we are striving to increase jobs and strengthen the foundation of the national economy.”
LIG Nex1 is expanding quality jobs in various areas such as guided missiles, seekers, overseas projects, underwater systems, command and control, communications, electronic warfare, aerial drones, and the Korean Positioning System (KPS).
In particular, the company is focusing on nurturing core talents to lead future growth engines by actively entering the civilian business sector.
Up to November this year, LIG Nex1 hired a total of 713 employees. This accounts for about 20% of the total workforce, representing a 227.1% increase compared to the 218 hires made last year.
The largest number of hires, 552, were in the R&D (Research and Development) sector, with balanced recruitment in production (36), business (47), and others (78).
The company is currently conducting its 2022 second half open recruitment and plans to hire an additional 300 to 400 employees, mainly in R&D, by the end of January next year.
LIG Nex1 explained that due to strong export business performance and expansion of new projects, large-scale recruitment is underway to meet manpower needs.
To expand office space and improve working conditions, LIG Nex1 recently relocated its Seoul office to Lotte World Tower in Songpa-gu, Seoul.
In November this year, the company received certification as an ‘Excellent Employer of Veterans’ from the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs. This certification system was introduced by the Ministry in 2015 to encourage corporate interest and voluntary participation in employing and nurturing mid- to long-term service veterans.
Only this year, LIG Nex1 newly hired 29 mid- to long-term service veterans, with a total of 173 such veterans currently employed.
LIG Nex1’s management policy is known to focus on technological innovation, sustainable growth, and people-centered values to enhance technological superiority in future business areas such as aerospace, transport drones, and autonomous driving.
The company plans to strengthen competitiveness across all rapidly advanced and sophisticated defense industry sectors through large-scale recruitment and to accelerate securing next-generation advanced technologies in the civilian sector by establishing a solid and reliable growth foundation.
