[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Byung-don] Lee Ju-ho, Deputy Prime Minister for Social Affairs and Minister of Education, emphasized cooperation to solve social problems in his New Year's address on the 30th.
Deputy Prime Minister Lee stated, "The year 2023 will be an important moment for our society to take a step forward toward a future where everyone is happy," adding, "We aim to create a year in which the autonomy and creativity of individuals and organizations are more respected, while communication between each other is activated and trust deepens."
He continued, "The Ministry of Education has reorganized its structure starting from the new year to more effectively carry out the significant task of ‘preparing for future society through a major transformation in education.’ We will form partnerships based on trust not only with educational sites but also with education offices, local governments, and related ministries to become a Ministry of Education that solves the problems faced by the public together," he emphasized.
Deputy Prime Minister Lee also promised to establish a foundation for innovation in schools to develop into an advanced education country.
He said, "We are establishing a new framework of responsible education so that each child can become a key player in creating future society," adding, "We have made various efforts together with teachers, schools, and education offices in the field to enable school education and classroom lessons to be renewed."

Furthermore, Deputy Prime Minister Lee pledged, "We are boldly easing regulations and greatly expanding support so that universities can become driving forces for innovation and development in local communities," and promised, "As the ministry under the Deputy Prime Minister for Social Affairs, the Ministry of Education will do its best to serve as a policy platform to solve various challenges our society faces, cooperating not only with related ministries and public institutions but also with various private sectors and civil society."
