The Braille first aid kit is designed for easy use by the visually impaired, containing a flat first aid box filled with wound ointment, burn ointment, disinfectant, antipyretic analgesics, medical tweezers, etc., with Braille stickers attached to each medicine to enable quick use.
Various ointments and disinfectants commonly stocked as household medicines often come in paper cases of similar size and shape. To prevent confusion, Braille stickers were attached to both the medicine boxes and the medicine containers inside the first aid kit. GS Caltex employees and their families assembled and attached the Braille stickers at home. The kits will be distributed sequentially to visually impaired individuals through the Nowon Welfare Center for the Visually Impaired.
Baek Hyeryeon, director of the Nowon Welfare Center for the Visually Impaired, said, “GS Caltex’s warm social contribution will greatly help visually impaired people use medicines safely without misuse,” adding, “Through the production and distribution of these Braille first aid kits, we hope Braille labeling will become more widespread on many everyday items we encounter.”
This volunteer activity is part of GS Caltex’s year-end relay volunteer work, which has been ongoing for 18 years since 2005. During December, about 400 people participated nationwide through 15 programs in Seoul, Yeosu, Daejeon, Busan, and other locations.
In this year of severe cold and heavy snow, employees personally delivered briquettes and winter daily necessities sets to elderly living alone. Employees and their families also participated in making and packaging snacks and side dishes at the GS Tower cafeteria, which were then delivered to vulnerable elderly and single-parent families.
At the Yeosu plant, employees made kimchi with local residents and delivered it to isolated neighbors such as elderly living alone. GS Caltex Yeosu plant employee volunteers helped with seasoning and packaging to complete the kimchi filled with sincerity. Heating oil and rice were also delivered to village senior centers. Volunteer activities such as kimchi-making, winter daily necessities support, and home repairs for vulnerable children were carried out at regional logistics centers and other local business sites.
