These new products, which began mass production this month, are LG Display's first gaming-dedicated OLED panels.
The gaming OLED panels support LG Display's OLED technology, where pixels emit light by themselves without a backlight. The response time, which is the time taken to display the graphics card signal on the screen, is 0.03 milliseconds (ms; 1 ms is one-thousandth of a second), the fastest among existing panels. The refresh rate, the number of images displayed per second, is up to 240 hertz (Hz), providing clear and smooth motion.
The panels apply a special gaming polarizer to minimize the phenomenon of ambient objects being visible on the screen in dark scenes. Perfect black expression enhances the depth of image quality and accurately conveys the colors intended by the original content. The amount of harmful blue light emitted is about half that of LCDs. There is also no flicker phenomenon, which can cause headaches.
With the bendable function that freely switches between flat and curved surfaces, the curvature can be set optimized for game genres. To this end, LG Display included its proprietary technology that allows the screen to be bent and unfolded up to a maximum curvature of 800R (curvature of a circle with a radius of 800 mm).
LG Display began mass production of gaming OLED panels, a market-creating business, this month. These panels are expected to be installed in premium gaming monitors from global IT device manufacturers and gaming gear brands such as LG Electronics, ASUS, and Corsair.
