Gwangyang City Holds 'Gamdong Day' to Listen to Citizens' Voices
Mayor Jeong Inhwa Actively Engages in Resolving Civil Complaints by Gathering Citizens' Opinions
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Heo Seonsik] On the 27th, Gwangyang City in Jeonnam announced that it held the ‘Gwangyang Impression Day’ in December, chaired by Mayor Jeong Inhwa, to listen to the diverse voices of its citizens.
‘Gwangyang Impression Day,’ established to expand citizens’ opportunities to participate in city administration, is a forum where citizens freely discuss city development plans, grievances, and difficulties, and jointly consider solutions.
At this Impression Day, 15 citizens from 7 teams visited and shared opinions and considered solutions regarding 9 various citizen proposals, including ▲development of infrastructure in the housing development district and repair of defects in apartment complexes ▲creation of public parking lots ▲adjustment of the Seomjin River section for tourism industry promotion ▲distribution of fishing gear warehouses at Wau Port.
The city decided to promptly reflect the budget or prepare solutions for feasible proposals such as the creation of public parking lots raised during the Impression Day.
Additionally, for medium- to long-term issues such as the adjustment of the Seomjin River section, related departments will continuously manage the matter by submitting proposals to central government agencies.
Furthermore, for issues difficult to directly reflect, such as complaints about sunlight obstruction caused by public senior housing, the city sufficiently explained the reasons to the proposers to gain understanding and guided them on solutions from the citizens’ perspective, including alternative suggestions.
Mayor Jeong Inhwa of Gwangyang said, “We prioritize communication and strive to engage in sincere communication with citizens,” adding, “If citizens share their voices, we will do our best to address even the smallest issues without neglect.”
He continued, “Although we try to go directly to the field to listen to citizens’ voices, there are areas we have not yet reached. The purpose of ‘Gwangyang Impression Day’ is to provide a place where any citizen can come and express their opinions,” and added, “We will continue to listen more attentively to citizens’ voices, improve mistakes, and promptly resolve grievances.”
‘Gwangyang Impression Day’ is held once a month in the citizen reception room on the 2nd floor of Gwangyang City Hall, providing an opportunity for any citizen to freely discuss opinions about city administration with the mayor (vice mayor, directors), thereby resolving citizens’ grievances and seeking directions for city development.
