Jinju-si Secures Record-Breaking National and Provincial Budget of 602.2 Billion Won in 2023
National Funding 476.2 Billion KRW and Provincial Funding 126 Billion KRW, 9% Increase from Previous Year
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Jinju City, Gyeongnam Province, secured a budget of 602.2 billion KRW from national and provincial funds for 2023.
The budget for next year consists of 476.2 billion KRW from national funds and 126 billion KRW from provincial funds, marking a 9% increase from 552.1 billion KRW in 2022, making it the largest budget ever based on the main budget.
This achievement is attributed to multifaceted efforts, including operating the “Special Task Force for Securing National and Provincial Funds” led by the vice mayor since February, which involved directly visiting relevant government and Gyeongnam provincial departments to explain the necessity and justification of projects.
Mayor Cho Gyu-il made every effort to secure national funds by visiting the offices of local and Gyeongnam region lawmakers in July to request the inclusion of key pending projects in the government budget.
Major national fund projects reflected in 2023 include the following in the land and regional development sector: ▲Jinju City Multipurpose Child Welfare Center construction project with 3.5 billion KRW ▲Jinju Sangpyeong Industrial Complex regeneration project with 1.27 billion KRW ▲Seongbuk District Urban Regeneration New Deal project with 2.37 billion KRW ▲Gangnam District Urban Regeneration New Deal project with 1.58 billion KRW ▲Jungang District Urban Regeneration New Deal project with 1.33 billion KRW ▲Climate Response Urban Forest Creation project with 1 billion KRW.
In the environmental sector, the following were included: ▲Jinju City Old Water Purification Plant Maintenance project with 25.258 billion KRW ▲Jinju City Local Waterworks Modernization project with 3.175 billion KRW ▲Jinju City Old Sewage Pipeline Maintenance project Phase 2 with 2.17 billion KRW ▲Daegok Public Sewage Treatment Facility Expansion project with 6.33 billion KRW. Notably, the Sewage Pipeline Maintenance project for Chojun-dong and eight other districts had its national fund increased by 500 million KRW during the National Assembly review stage, securing a total of 2.56 billion KRW.
In the industry and disaster safety sector, the following were secured: ▲Support for Aviation Core Technology Leading Research Center with 2 billion KRW ▲Small and Medium Research and Development Promotion project with 2 billion KRW ▲Jangjae Jangheung Natural Disaster Risk Area Maintenance project with 2.23 billion KRW.
In the welfare, culture, and tourism sector, the following were secured: ▲Anrak Park Modernization project with 3.97 billion KRW ▲Jinju Jeongchon-myeon Fossil History Park creation with 1.84 billion KRW. Although the Korea Drama Festival was not included in the government budget proposal, 600 million KRW was secured during the National Assembly review stage.
Additionally, for provincial fund conversion projects, the following were secured: ▲Jinju Daechup Plaza creation with 3 billion KRW ▲Silk Museum construction with 3 billion KRW ▲Dongbu Municipal Library construction with 2 billion KRW ▲Jinju Water Purification Plant Advanced Water Treatment Facility installation with 1.2 billion KRW ▲Healing Forest Creation project with 1.1 billion KRW ▲Jinju Sports Park sports facility expansion with 930 million KRW ▲Sinandong Complex Sports Town creation with 764 million KRW.
Other national direct implementation projects include: ▲Southern Inland Railway project with 178.6 billion KRW ▲National Jinju Museum relocation and construction project with 3.616 billion KRW.

With the securing of national and provincial funds, key pending projects will gain momentum, and we will do our best to promptly advance these projects to accelerate the construction of a prosperous city that citizens can feel.”
