Jinju-si Adjusts City Bus Operation During Winter Vacation... Reduces 7 Routes, Saves 400 Million Won in Financial Support
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Jinju City, Gyeongnam Province, will temporarily reduce the operation of 21 city buses flexibly from January 7 to March 1, 2023, during the winter vacation.
The flexible operation of city buses is implemented by Jinju City since 2021 during summer and winter vacations to supply services according to passenger demand and to reduce financial support for transportation companies. Most other cities are also implementing this.
The flexible operation routes are those frequently used by students, including routes 10, 20, 120, 130, 251, 350, and 360. They will operate with reduced frequency only on weekdays, while maintaining the usual schedule on holidays to minimize inconvenience to citizens. The city expects to save about 400 million KRW in financial support to transportation companies through flexible operation.
A city official stated, “About 20% of our city bus users are students, so public transportation policies should vary depending on usage patterns. We improve efficiency every year through flexible operation during vacation periods, and from the second half of next year, we will also promote a policy allowing students to use city buses for free.”
