Over 230 Foreign Young Children in Gyeongnam to Receive Tuition Support in the New Year
Up to 350,000 KRW Per Person for Public and Private Kindergarten Students
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Seryeong] Starting in 2023, foreign children aged 3 to 5 attending public and private kindergartens in the Gyeongnam region will also receive tuition support.
The Gyeongnam Office of Education announced on the 23rd that, in order to provide equal early childhood education opportunities and reduce the financial burden on parents, it will expand tuition support to foreign children according to the Gyeongnam Office of Education's Multicultural Education Promotion Ordinance.
According to the provincial Office of Education, foreign children have not been included in the Ministry of Education's early childhood tuition support program until now.
The support targets approximately 230 children aged 3 to 5 who are registered as foreigners in Korea and attend public or private kindergartens within the province.
The monthly support amount per child is the same as for Korean nationals: for public kindergartens, 100,000 KRW for the curriculum and 50,000 KRW for after-school programs; for private kindergartens, 280,000 KRW for the curriculum and 70,000 KRW for after-school programs.
To apply for the support, the child's guardian must visit the kindergarten, fill out an application form, and submit relevant documents such as the foreign registration card.
