Ministry of Culture Designates 51 New Preliminary Social Enterprises... Supports Programs for Vulnerable Groups

View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Heeyoon] The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism announced on the 23rd that it has newly designated 51 companies as 'Preliminary Social Enterprises in the Culture, Sports, and Tourism Sector.'
The Ministry introduced the designation system for Preliminary Social Enterprises in the Culture, Sports, and Tourism Sector in 2019. It supports companies, private museums and art galleries, professional arts corporations and organizations, sports clubs, and others to grow into social enterprises that enhance social value through culture and create various cultural services and jobs.
The Ministry explained that among a total of 137 companies that applied during the one-month period starting September 28, it selected 51 companies based on their creative and innovative activities to realize social value and sustainability.
The selected companies include ▲ those that plan and develop cultural services for vulnerable groups based on local cultural and tourism resources ▲ those that operate sports specialized platforms, provide jobs for retired athletes, and plan and support sports activity programs for vulnerable groups ▲ and those that plan and operate cultural and artistic programs to solve social isolation and disconnection issues caused by the increase of single-person households and accelerated aging.

The status of preliminary social enterprise is maintained for three years. They can participate in financial support projects such as employee wage support from the Ministry of Employment and Labor, professional personnel support, and business development cost support, as well as customized support through dedicated support organizations in the fields of culture, sports, and tourism, and Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism supervised support projects including cultural and artistic education for vulnerable groups and cultural and artistic activity programs for the elderly. The designation period is three years.
