Gyeonggi-do Selected as Best Institution for Establishing Child Protection System
[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Gyeonggi-do received the top award among 17 metropolitan local governments nationwide in the '2022 Child Protection System Establishment' excellent local government evaluation hosted by the Ministry of Health and Welfare on the 22nd.
With this, Gyeonggi-do received awards in all three child policy promotion categories: the top award in the Child Policy Implementation Plan Performance Evaluation hosted by the Ministry of Health and Welfare, the excellence award in the Child Abuse Public Response System Operation Evaluation, and the child protection system establishment evaluation.
The Child Protection System Establishment Evaluation is an award that has been given since 2020 to assess local governments' efforts over the past year in building a public-centered child protection system.
The evaluation reviews a total of nine items across three areas: operation of city/province child protection systems, support for city/county child protection tasks, and expansion of child protection infrastructure. Awards are given to two metropolitan cities/provinces with outstanding performance (grand prize and top award) and seven basic local governments (cities/counties/districts).
The province was recognized for its efforts in promoting policies for children under protection, including the establishment of child protection teams in 27 out of 31 cities/counties, deployment of 94 dedicated child protection personnel within the province and support through workshops, and the establishment and operation of a dedicated institution for self-reliance support in Gyeonggi-do.

Yoo So-jeong, head of the Child Care Division of the province, emphasized, "Gyeonggi-do will continue to strengthen the child protection system for children under protection," adding, "In particular, we will focus on supporting the work of dedicated child protection personnel in cities and counties who cover the entire child protection system process."
