[Asia Economy Reporter Ki-min Lee] On the 22nd, First Lady Kim Geon-hee visited the Namdaemun jjokbangchon (small-room village) in Seoul and delivered 'Hope Boxes' containing various food items to the residents.
On that morning, First Lady Kim attended the event "2022 Visiting Christmas with Neighbors, Hope Box Sharing," hosted by the Salvation Army and sponsored by the nonprofit organization Good People International.
About 400 households live in the Namdaemun jjokbangchon visited by First Lady Kim and these organizations, each residing in rooms about one pyeong (approximately 3.3 square meters) in size.
This event was held for the third time since 2018 and 2021, and according to the Presidential Office, First Lady Kim was the first presidential spouse to attend.
Wearing a black padded jacket and a Love Fruit (Sarangui Yeolmae) badge, First Lady Kim, before visiting homes, said in her greeting, "We have made many efforts to share warm comfort with neighbors facing difficulties, and I deeply appreciate those who continue to work and volunteer together." She encouraged religious groups and related organizations that have practiced volunteering for marginalized communities. She added, "I would be grateful if everyone continues to work together so that these efforts can be deeply and effectively conveyed throughout our society."
First Lady Kim personally delivered 'Hope Boxes' containing various food items such as instant rice, cup rice, and gim (seaweed) to an elderly resident living in the Namdaemun jjokbangchon.
The elderly resident expressed gratitude for First Lady Kim's visit and asked for continued attention in the future, according to the Presidential Office.
This schedule was covered by a joint (pool) press corps from the Presidential Office. Pool coverage is a method where a small number of reporters represent the press corps to cover events and share the content due to security concerns.
