[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Chunsu] The Jeonnam Police announced on the 21st that from September 20 to November 30, a 72-day crime prevention activity was strengthened, resulting in a 21.1% decrease in agricultural product theft compared to the same period last year.
First, reflecting residents' opinions that CCTV installation is a priority in vulnerable locations and necessary facilities, 134 CCTV units were installed at 65 locations including agricultural cultivation and farming sites using unused computers.
Additionally, 279 units of low-cost, high-efficiency mobile solar-powered CCTV were installed at 233 locations, creating a dense security infrastructure to ensure residents feel safe and promoting a crime prevention environment.
Furthermore, comprehensive crime prevention diagnostics (2,080 times) were conducted focusing on vulnerable areas such as agricultural product storage warehouses and cultivation sites to identify issues and take corrective measures targeting managers.
Along with this, patrol routes were established reflecting areas with frequent agricultural product theft, major cultivation sites and storage warehouses, and locations requested by residents, while visible patrol activities were carried out together with cooperative organizations such as autonomous crime prevention squads.
Moreover, to psychologically deter crime and raise self-defense awareness, banners and warning signs (477 times) were posted on main roads, village entrances and exits, and agricultural product warehouses, and village broadcasts (3,423 times) and SNS (671 times) were conducted to promote various information about agricultural product theft cases and methods to farmers.
After promoting agricultural product theft prevention activities, a survey was conducted over six days from the 1st to the 6th targeting 1,263 village residents. The results showed that 77.4% were satisfied with the police's prevention activities, 65.2% believed theft had decreased, and the most satisfactory police activity was resident contact patrol activities (52.7%).
