No Safety Issues at 42 First and Second-Class Facilities in Busan Port
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Du-yeol] As a result of conducting detailed safety inspections on 42 locations in Busan Port, including 9 first-class facilities and 33 second-class facilities subject to the "Special Act on Safety and Maintenance of Facilities," all achieved a grade of 'B' (Good) or higher.
First-class facilities are large-scale facilities that require special management for the convenience and safety of the public or require advanced technology for structural safety and maintenance.
Second-class facilities are those other than first-class facilities, including social infrastructure, which have a high risk of disaster occurrence or require continuous management to prevent disasters.
According to Busan Port Authority (BPA), the 42 facilities include 34 mooring facilities, 4 buildings, and 3 cut slopes, and systematic management considering the characteristics of each facility is necessary.
Currently, more than 25% of the facilities in Busan Port are aged over 30 years, and this proportion is increasing annually, expected to reach about 50% by around 2030.
Additionally, due to the increase in cargo volume, the annual maintenance demand is rising, making facility management challenging.
BPA accurately assesses the condition of facilities through regular safety inspections, detailed safety inspections, and emergency safety inspections, and conducts annual maintenance considering priorities for efficient budget execution and repairs.
In 2023, based on this year's safety inspection results, BPA plans to carry out maintenance work to enhance the durability of the inspected facilities after detailed design.
