Emergency Duty in Seoul Due to '8cm' Heavy Snow Forecast...Extended Concentrated Dispatch of Public Transportation for Commuting
Snow Removal Level 2 from 10 PM
8,484 Personnel and 1,123 Equipment Mobilized
[Asia Economy Reporter Kiho Sung] On the 20th at 11 a.m., the Korea Meteorological Administration issued a heavy snow advisory for the Seoul area and the metropolitan area. The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced that, with 3 to 8 cm of snow forecast from early dawn tomorrow, Seoul City, autonomous districts, and related organizations will enter an emergency duty system to prepare for the snowfall.
In particular, as temperatures drop below freezing and the severe cold continues, with heavy snow expected from tomorrow morning, a level 2 snow removal alert will be issued from 10 p.m. today, and snow removal equipment will be deployed in advance for snow clearing operations.
Through CCTVs installed along the heavy snow movement path in the West Sea region, early signs of snowfall are detected in advance to pre-apply deicing agents before snow falls in Seoul. A total of 8,484 personnel and 1,123 snow removal vehicles will be mobilized to prepare for the snowfall.
Snow removal boxes stocked with deicing agents and equipment have been replenished in alleyways and steep slopes so that anyone can easily use them. Given the heavy snow forecast, citizens are also urged to participate in clearing snow in front of their homes and stores.
Additionally, to prepare for traffic congestion caused by heavy snow, cooperation has been requested from the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency. During heavy snowfall, traffic police will be deployed at 116 vulnerable points, and traffic control will be implemented in vulnerable sections.
The city will extend the concentrated dispatch time during the 21st’s morning and evening rush hours by 30 minutes on all subway and city bus routes according to the emergency stage when the heavy snow advisory is in effect.
The city plans to frequently send updates on snow removal and traffic conditions to citizens to minimize inconvenience.
