View original image[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Song Jong-gu] Professor Ko Kwang-cheol of the Department of Gastroenterology at Samsung Changwon Hospital, Sungkyunkwan University, was recently inaugurated as the 15th president of the Korean Association for the Study of the Liver (KASL) at the 28th Autumn Scientific Meeting and General Assembly of KASL. His term is one year, from December 2022 to November 2023.
Founded in 1981 as the Korean Liver Research Society, KASL is a multidisciplinary academic society composed of about 2,000 members who are experts in various fields including internal medicine, surgery, radiology, pathology, and pediatrics. KASL holds an annual international conference called "The Liver Week," and its official journal, Clinical and Molecular Hepatology (CMH), is recognized as an SCIE international journal.
President Ko said, "I plan to focus not only on the external growth of KASL but also on strengthening its foundation," adding, "I will do my best to support various research and exchange activities through communication-centered empathy so that KASL can be recognized as a global authority in hepatology beyond Asia."

Professor Ko Kwang-cheol, who is currently serving as the director of Samsung Changwon Hospital, Sungkyunkwan University, and a professor of gastroenterology, trained at the Yale Liver Center in the United States and has served as president of the Korean Liver Cancer Association.
