Suwon-si, Family-Friendly Institution Re-Certification
[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Suwon City in Gyeonggi Province has received re-certification as a family-friendly institution from the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family.
The family-friendly institution certification is a system that grants certification to organizations (companies, public institutions) that exemplary operate family-friendly policies such as support for childbirth and child-rearing, improvement of working conditions, and creation of a family-friendly workplace culture to enable work and family life to coexist.
With this re-certification, Suwon City can maintain its status as a family-friendly certified institution for three years until 2025.
The city was first selected as a family-friendly certified institution in 2011, followed by extensions in 2014, re-certifications in 2016 and 2019, and has received certification again this year.
The city designates every Wednesday as "Family Love Day" to encourage leaving work on time and promotes policies such as the 'Public Official Mom and Dad Kids Enjoyment Experience Event' where public official parents and children participate together, support for long-term service leave, and provision of supplies for pregnant employees.
Additionally, various family-friendly projects are being carried out, including workplace education, provision of family vacation facilities and vacation subsidies, operation of workplace daycare centers, support for ecological and cultural experiences, vaccinations such as flu shots, operation of traditional Korean medicine clinics, and mental health counseling centers.
Lee Jae-jun, Mayor of Suwon City, promised, "We will continue to create a family-friendly organizational culture so that public officials can be satisfied with both their work and family lives."
