Ulju-gun, 21 Tons of Waste Collection and Exchange Project... 2 Tons of Waste Fluorescent Lamps, 7 Tons of Waste Batteries, 12 Tons of Paper Packs Collected and Exchanged
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Dongguk Lee] Ulju-gun, Ulsan City, has collected a total of 21 tons of waste through this year's waste fluorescent lamp, waste battery, and paper pack collection and exchange project.
Through this project, Ulju-gun collected a total of 21 tons of waste as of the 30th of last month this year, including ▲ 2 tons of waste fluorescent lamps ▲ 7 tons of waste batteries ▲ 12 tons of paper packs.
Waste fluorescent lamps and waste batteries contain harmful substances such as manganese, zinc, and mercury, which cause serious pollution to humans and the environment if landfilled or incinerated together with general waste.
Also, although paper packs have high recycling value, about 70% of them are mixed with general waste paper due to lack of awareness about separate disposal, resulting in incineration or landfill.
To increase the separate disposal and collection rate of such waste, the county actively promotes the collection and exchange project centered on the eup/myeon administrative welfare centers and installs dedicated collection boxes, conducting annual demand surveys.
For waste batteries, one set of new batteries (2 pieces) is given for every 10 batteries collected; for waste fluorescent lamps, one roll of toilet paper is given for every 5 lamps; and for paper packs, one roll of toilet paper is given for every 0.2 kg (20 pieces of 200 ml, 15 pieces of 500 ml, 10 pieces of 1000 ml) collected.
The project will continue until the exchange items are exhausted, and the collection and exchange project will be operated again next year.
