Gwangyang Steelworks Hairdressing Volunteer Group "We Take Responsibility for Senior Citizens' Hair and Beauty Care"
Helping Elderly Who Usually Have Difficulty Visiting Hair Salons Transform
Provided Hair and Beauty Services to 3,659 People Over 177 Sessions from 2015 to 2021
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Heo Seon-sik] POSCO Gwangyang Steelworks Kkakka Hair Beauty Talent Volunteer Group (Director Lee Hee-dong) shared warm affection by carrying out hairdressing activities for local neighbors at the Gwangyang Disabled Welfare Center in Gwangyang City on the 14th.
The Kkakka Hair Beauty Talent Volunteer Group started in 2003 as a fellowship group of POSCO Gwangyang Steelworks employees who wished to help neighbors and was officially established as a talent volunteer group in 2015.
They regularly visit social welfare facilities, village halls, senior citizen groups, and facilities for the disabled in the Gwangyang area, practicing the spirit of sharing by fully utilizing their talents not only in hairdressing activities for the elderly and neighbors in need but also in nail care, longevity and couple photo makeup, and more.
From 2015 to 2021, the Kkakka Hair Beauty Talent Volunteer Group provided hairdressing services to local residents 177 times, benefiting approximately 3,659 citizens.
About 15 volunteer members participated in this volunteer activity, serving elderly people who usually have difficulty visiting hair salons to get their hair cut.
The volunteers carefully styled hair using combs, scissors, hairpins, razors, and other tools they prepared, and the 30 elderly people who received the service smiled as they saw themselves transformed with a stylish look.
In particular, the service went beyond simple haircuts by washing hair at the prepared washbasin, providing scalp massages, and offering styling services using hairdryers, which received great responses.
Lee Hee-dong, director of the Gwangyang Steelworks Kkakka Hair Beauty Talent Volunteer Group, said, “It is meaningful to be able to provide volunteer services to elderly people who usually find it difficult to receive hairdressing services,” and added, “We will continue to carry out volunteer activities so that neighbors in need in our local community can enjoy various services.”
