Gwangju Lotte Gallery, Call for Local Emerging Curators
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Shin Dong-ho] Gwangju Lotte Gallery is holding a contest to discover talented emerging curators in the Gwangju and Jeonnam regions.
This contest, the first of its kind by Lotte Gallery for local art talents, was organized to provide an opportunity to plan exhibitions ahead of the world-renowned 2023 Gwangju Biennale and to contribute to the development of regional art.
The application period, which began on the 9th, will continue until the 31st. Applicants must meet at least one of the following criteria: born in Gwangju or Jeonnam, graduated from an educational institution in Gwangju or Jeonnam, or have more than two years of experience in the art scene of Gwangju or Jeonnam. Detailed information can be found on the Lotte Gallery website and Instagram.
The winners will have the opportunity to plan exhibitions at Gwangju Lotte Gallery during the 2023 Gwangju Biennale, receive prize money, and be supported with budgets necessary for the exhibition as well as professional curator mentoring. The final winners will be announced at the end of January on the Lotte Gallery website.
Choi Bo-kyung, head of the Art Gallery Team at Lotte Department Store, said on the 15th, "We hope this contest will discover capable emerging curators in the region," adding, "We will continue to provide opportunities for active communication with audiences through Lotte Gallery."
Meanwhile, Lotte Gallery plans to hold various exhibitions by domestic and international artists year-round at locations including the 2023 Lotte Department Store Gwangju branch, the main branch, Jamsil branch, and Gwangbok branch.
