7% of Large Warehouse Facilities Including Gyeonggi-do Logistics Centers Have 'Poor Fire Safety Management'
[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] The Gyeonggi-do Fire and Disaster Headquarters has identified 21 warehouse facilities in the province that failed to properly manage fire safety equipment.
The Special Judicial Police Unit of the Gyeonggi Fire Headquarters conducted a planned fire safety crackdown from September to November on 293 warehouse facilities, including logistics warehouses, cold storage warehouses, and logistics terminals across the province. They found 21 warehouses (7%) with poor fire safety management, such as those registered as cold storage warehouses exempt from sprinkler installation but used as ambient temperature warehouses requiring sprinklers, or those stacking goods under fire shutters, the headquarters announced on the 15th.
Logistics Center A was caught during the crackdown for using the facility as an ambient temperature warehouse without installing sprinkler systems after being approved as a cold storage warehouse exempt from sprinkler installation.
Unlike general buildings, cold storage warehouses are exempt from mandatory installation of emergency fire extinguishing devices like sprinklers due to concerns such as freezing.
Logistics Center B was found to have stored goods and obstacles under fire shutters, and Logistics Center C was discovered to have left the fire pump power control panel in manual mode.
The Gyeonggi Fire Headquarters decided to impose fines on these logistics centers respectively.
According to the current "Act on Installation and Management of Firefighting Facilities," a fine of up to 3 million KRW can be imposed for negligence in installing or managing firefighting facilities or in managing evacuation and fire prevention facilities.
