Held at City Hall International Conference Hall at 2 PM on the 15th, attended by over 100 participants from industry, academia, research, and government sectors
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Dongguk Lee] Busan City and the Carbon Neutrality Support Center will hold the 1st 2050 Busan Carbon Neutrality and Green Growth Forum at 2 p.m. on the 15th at the City Hall International Conference Hall.
Realizing a carbon-neutral society by 2050 has become a common goal pursued by countries and cities worldwide to ensure that not only the present but also future humanity can live on Earth.
Since the need to realize a carbon-neutral society by 2050 emerged at the 2015 Paris Agreement, the government has sought a national-level carbon neutrality strategy and enacted and implemented related basic laws.
Busan City also enacted related ordinances in July 2022 and opened the Carbon Neutrality Support Center in October 2022, striving to implement region-led carbon neutrality.
This forum is organized as a meaningful occasion where about 100 participants, including industry, government, academia, research stakeholders, citizens, and civic groups, will present and discuss their roles and tasks in realizing a carbon-neutral society from their respective positions.
At the forum, Jo Ik-no, Director of the Inclusive Transition Bureau of the 2050 Carbon Neutrality and Green Growth Committee, will deliver the keynote speech on "Korea's 2050 Carbon Neutral Society Implementation Strategy." Jeong Seung-yoon, Head of the City’s Carbon Neutral Policy Division, will present "Global Leadership City, Strategies and Tasks for Realizing a Carbon Neutral City Busan." Oh Moon-beom, Secretary General of Busan YMCA, will discuss "The Role and Tasks of Civil Society in Realizing a Carbon Neutral Society," and Shim Jae-woon, Head of Economic Policy Headquarters at Busan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, will present "The Role and Tasks of Businesses in Realizing a Carbon Neutral Society."
Experts including Yang Jin-woo, Director of the City’s Carbon Neutrality Support Center and chairperson, Kim Do-gwan, Ph.D. at Busan Research Institute, Kim Chang-soo, Professor at Pukyong National University, Jeong Joo-chul, Professor at Pusan National University, and Choi In-hwa, Director of the Busan-Gyeongnam Ecological City Research Institute, will discuss the presentations.
Lee Geun-hee, Director of the City’s Environmental Policy Office, said, "We expect this forum to be an opportunity to listen to diverse thoughts and opinions on realizing a carbon-neutral society from industry, academia, research, government, citizens, and civic groups, and to jointly explore the roles and tasks of community members," adding, "We ask for the active interest and participation of citizens."
