Lotte Confectionery Launches Old-Fashioned 'Samgeori Hoppang'... Collaboration with Local Bakery Seulji Bakery
[Asia Economy Reporter Song Seung-yoon] Lotte Confectionery announced on the 14th that its bread specialty brand 'Girin' has launched a series of steamed buns ahead of the winter peak season for hot buns.
The newly released ‘Samgeori Hot Bun’ is a traditional-style hot bun developed in collaboration with ‘Seulji Bakery,’ a steamed bun specialty store located in Buan, Jeonbuk. Seulji Bakery is a local favorite that has been making steamed buns using domestic wheat and high-quality local agricultural products for 22 years. It transformed the classic steamed bun into a trendy steamed bun bakery caf?, becoming a regional landmark.
Lotte Confectionery introduced chewy-textured hot buns made with domestic wheat and starch, incorporating Seulji Bakery’s expertise. In line with the health-conscious healthy pleasure trend, the filling’s sugar content was reduced, and the red bean content was increased about threefold to emphasize the mild flavor of the red bean hot bun. The ‘Samgeori Hot Bun,’ developed in collaboration with Seulji Bakery, is sold nationwide at discount stores and supermarkets. At CU convenience stores, a refrigerated ‘Salt Butter Hot Bun’ featuring buttery flavor and low-sugar whole red bean paste was launched.

They also released four popular winter Girin hot bun varieties (red bean, vegetable, pizza, corn). Having developed numerous fermentation patents over the years, Girin has been using lactic acid bacteria fermentation liquid in its bread and hot buns for several years. The newly launched hot bun series also uses lactic acid bacteria fermentation liquid made with their self-developed and patented ‘customized fermented bread lactic acid bacteria.’ This reduces the fermentation aroma of the bread, enhances flavor, and softens the dough. Lotte Confectionery plans to gradually expand the use of local bakeries and domestic agricultural products, leveraging its collaboration with Seulji Bakery.
