Samsung Electronics Surpasses NAND Flash with Foundry Sales for the First Time in Q3
[Asia Economy Reporter Song Seung-yoon] Samsung Electronics' foundry (semiconductor contract manufacturing) quarterly sales have surpassed NAND flash sales for the first time ever.
According to Taiwanese market research firm TrendForce on the 13th, Samsung Electronics' foundry sales in the third quarter were recorded at $5.584 billion. This represents a 0.1% decrease from the previous quarter, with market share dropping from 16.4% to 15.5%.
Samsung Electronics' flagship memory semiconductor NAND flash sales in the third quarter were $4.3 billion, down 28.1% from the previous quarter. Consequently, NAND flash market share also fell by 1.6 percentage points (p) from 33.0% to 31.4%.

If TrendForce's estimates are accurate, Samsung Electronics' foundry quarterly sales exceed NAND flash sales by approximately 30%. This is the first time Samsung's foundry quarterly sales have surpassed NAND flash. The sharp decline in NAND flash sales is attributed to reduced demand caused by the economic downturn. Conversely, the industry evaluates that Samsung Electronics' foundry maintained strong demand for advanced process nodes in the third quarter, and the exchange rate impact was also positive.
