Jjanggu Takes Over Convenience Stores... The Fun of Collecting Stickers is "SsolSsol" [Convenience Store Adventure]
CU Offers Over 30 Types of Ready Meals and Snacks
Easy Microwave Preparation
Taste Slightly Disappointing for the Price
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Chunhan] Following the recent craze over Pok?mon, Shin-chan has now taken over convenience stores, prompting a visit to CU. Currently, over 30 Shin-chan series products, including ready meals and snacks, are on sale. Among them, Shin-chan Kirimochi Udon, Doenjang Butter Corn Ramen, and Shin-chan’s Curry King are dominating the top three spots in their respective categories, enjoying great popularity.
Shin-chan Kirimochi Udon immediately caught the eye on the shelf with packaging featuring Shin-chan and Shiro. Detailed instructions on how to enjoy it were provided. Upon opening the product, the noodles, kirimochi, soy sauce, toppings, katsuobushi, and a sticker were each neatly packaged. Following the cooking instructions, all ingredients except the katsuobushi were added, hot water was poured in, and it was microwaved for 3 minutes. The kirimochi slightly melted, having a texture similar to glutinous rice cake. When eaten plain, it had no flavor, but soaking it thoroughly in the broth balanced the taste. While it was tastier than cheap udon products, considering cost-effectiveness (performance relative to price), I probably wouldn’t repurchase it.
Shin-chan’s Curry King is an Indian-style curry that Shin-chan enjoys in the comic. The preparation involved microwaving instant rice for 1 minute 30 seconds, then adding curry sauce and microwaving for another 30 seconds, followed by adding sliced garlic before eating. The curry was thin with hardly any chunks and was overly sweet, making it cloying after a while. The sliced garlic seemed intended to counterbalance the sweetness with its spiciness, but it felt insufficient. The collectible stickers featuring Shin-chan, Maeng-gu, Yuri, and others stimulated the desire to collect, but it was disappointing that the taste did not live up to expectations.

Chocobi Monaka is one of Shin-chan’s favorite snacks. Like other Shin-chan products, it comes with one of 25 random stickers enclosed. Since the monaka is a frozen product, it was more soggy than crispy. The ice cream inside had a strong cocoa flavor and was not sweet. Overall, the taste was decent, but those expecting a rich chocolate ice cream might be disappointed. The Chocobi crackers were star-shaped, crispy, and had a strong chocolate aroma, making them delicious, and the chocolate bar was similar to Crunky chocolate, which was not bad. The pop-up candy features a button that, when pressed, splits Shin-chan’s head in two and releases candy. Although somewhat bizarre, children are likely to find it fun.
