Incheon City Detects 75 Cases of Illegal Construction in Commercial Areas... Most Are Unauthorized Extensions
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyesook] Incheon City announced on the 11th that it has uncovered 75 cases of illegal activities during an inspection of illegal construction in commercial dense areas.
This inspection was conducted over fifteen days starting from the 16th of last month at three locations: Rodeo Street in Guwol-dong, Namdong-gu, 2030 Street in Juan-dong, and Theme Street in Bupyeong-gu, to prevent similar accidents related to the Seoul Itaewon tragedy.
The city, in cooperation with the relevant districts, found 69 cases of unauthorized extensions obstructing pedestrian traffic, 4 cases of unauthorized change of use, and 2 cases of building line violations.
The city issued administrative measures such as prior notification, correction orders, and imposition of fines to the owners of the respective buildings.

An official from Incheon City stated, "This inspection targeted areas with narrow road widths and where crowds gather on weekends and holidays," adding, "We will continue to strengthen inspections and administrative actions against illegal construction activities in commercial dense areas to thoroughly prevent similar accidents like the Itaewon tragedy."
