Gochang-gun Conducts 'Donghak Peasant Revolution Touring Education' for Middle and High School Students

[Gochang=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Jaegil] On the 9th, Gochang-gun, Jeonbuk announced that it will conduct a touring education program on the Donghak Peasant Revolution for middle and high school students in the area.

This touring education, organized by the Gochang Donghak Peasant Revolution Memorial Association, was planned to provide local youth with an opportunity to reflect on the significance of the Donghak Peasant Revolution and the meaning of Gochang in the history of the revolution.

The program is conducted for 780 students in 37 classes from Gochang Middle School, Heungdeok Middle School, and Gangho Aviation High School, who responded to the demand survey.

Starting with 160 third-year students in 8 classes at Gangho Aviation High School on the 23rd of last month, a touring lecture was held on the 6th for 260 second- and third-year students at Gochang Middle School.

The county plans to continue the Donghak Peasant Revolution lectures for all students of Heungdeok Middle School and 16 classes of first- and second-year students at Gangho Aviation High School.

A student who participated in the education said, “I am very proud that Jeon Bong-jun, the supreme leader of the Donghak Peasant Revolution, is from Gochang,” and added, “I felt like I definitely want to visit the Donghak Peasant Revolution historic sites such as the Mujang Uprising site in the future.”

The county is a sacred site of the Donghak Peasant Revolution, holding key historic sites such as the birthplace of Jeon Bong-jun, the Mujang Uprising site which was the starting point of a nationwide revolution from a local rebellion, and the Dosot site of Son Hwajung who seized the secret from the seated Buddha statue carved on the rock at Dongbulam Temple in Seonunsa Temple and laid the foundation for the Mujang Uprising.

County Governor Shim Deok-seop said, “I hope that local youth will deeply engrave the significance of Gochang and the Donghak Peasant Revolution, and grow into talents of the county with pride and love for their hometown as Gochang residents.”
