View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Yuri Kim] GS Retail's convenience store GS25 announced on the 9th that the two types of fresh cream donuts, Salty Milk and Choux Cream, launched last October, have continued their popularity after ranking first in dessert category sales within a week of release.
GS25 stated, "These fresh cream donuts have become 'rare items' at convenience stores that customers can barely purchase without an 'open run,' leading to a surge in customers posting purchase success verification photos." They added, "Thanks to the purchase success photos and positive reviews posted by customers on SNS, the two fresh cream donuts surpassed the sales of 'Kiri Cream Cheese Mochi Roll,' which had been the number one dessert category product for the past two years, within a week of launch."
The two fresh cream donuts are differentiated dessert products planned under the concept of specialty store donuts through a collaboration between GS25 and Maeil Dairies. Due to the nature of frying in oil, which makes it challenging to maintain taste and quality when introducing such products to convenience stores, the development period took eight months. They developed a dedicated donut bread that maintains its unique chewy texture for 3 to 4 days, and filled the donuts with Maeil Dairies fresh cream at a nearly 1:1 ratio to deliver a flavor surpassing that of specialty store products. They also established a stable production system by finding a HACCP-certified factory capable of uniformly producing high-quality donuts.
GS25 plans to launch two new fresh cream donut products next month. Riding on the popularity of the fresh cream donuts, they advanced the release schedule of additional lineup, originally planned for March next year, by about two months.
