Gyeongnam 'Think Tank' Gyeongnam Research Institute Celebrates 30th Anniversary
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Seryeong] The Gyeongnam Research Institute held a commemorative ceremony at the Changwon Convention Center (CECO) on the 8th to mark its 30th anniversary.
According to Gyeongsangnam-do Province, the Gyeongnam Research Institute is a public policy research institution jointly funded by the province and all cities and counties, established in 1992.
It has played a role in supporting the region's autonomous capabilities and policy planning, as well as developing policies that lead to the happy lives of residents.
Gyeongsangnam-do stated that the commemorative ceremony was held to seek future development strategies for Gyeongnam and reflect them in policies through diagnosing major issues and topics that will lead the next 30 years of the Gyeongnam Research Institute.
The ceremony was attended by Governor Park Wan-su, Chairman of the Provincial Council Kim Jin-bu, former Chairman of the Presidential Transition Committee’s Regional Balanced Development Committee Kim Byung-joon, Chairman of the Planning and Administration Committee of the Provincial Council Park Joon, Provincial Assemblyman Baek Tae-hyun, and Chairman of the National Association of City and Provincial Research Institutes Yoo Dong-hoon.
After the ceremony, a seminar was held to present directions for Gyeongsangnam-do and to generate ideas.
The seminar included presentations and discussions on the following topics: ▲Challenges and leaps, bold plans for the Gyeongnam economy ▲Designing the future city of Gyeongnam ▲Decentralization plans to lead the local era of Gyeongnam ▲Creating an innovation-driven and technology-led ecosystem ▲Now is the Gyeongnam era, developing through culture and tourism ▲Happy residents, advanced welfare and health plans.
At the ceremony, Governor Park awarded plaques of appreciation to three individuals, including Research Strategy Director Ma Sang-yeol, who were recognized for their contributions to provincial development and the welfare of residents.
He added, “Over the past 30 years, the Gyeongnam Research Institute has greatly enhanced the capabilities of local governments and worked to advance local autonomy to a new level. I hope it will continue to play a significant role as a think tank that serves as the foundation for Gyeongnam’s new leap forward and regional development.”

Research Director Song Bu-yong said, “Building on the 30-year foundation, the Gyeongnam Research Institute will begin the challenge for the next 100 years. By diagnosing Gyeongnam’s current status and presenting future directions across all areas including economy, jobs, and science and technology, we will prepare for a new leap forward.”
