Suwon City to Create a Chemical Accident Safety City... Establishing Response Plan
[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Suwon City in Gyeonggi Province has established the 'Suwon City Regional Chemical Accident Response Plan' to protect citizens from chemical accidents.
According to the Ministry of Environment guidelines, Suwon City announced on the 8th that it recently completed the 'Suwon City Regional Chemical Accident Response Plan Establishment Project,' which began in June to develop a plan tailored to the local conditions of Suwon. The project was undertaken by the nonprofit organization Information Society Development Institute.
The main contents of the Suwon City Regional Chemical Accident Response Plan include ▲matters related to resident evacuation in the event of a chemical accident ▲provisions for recovery and support related to chemical accidents such as distribution of emergency relief supplies and emergency medical support ▲preparation of a chemical accident response manual (draft) including response personnel and coordination systems with related organizations ▲investigation of hazardous chemical substances and facilities below the reporting threshold within the jurisdiction, and substance information surveys.
In particular, it details hazardous chemical substance handling workplaces and facilities, strengthening chemical accident response capabilities, procedures for responding to chemical substance leakage accidents, propagation and evacuation orders for chemical accidents, equipment and resources for emergency chemical accident response, and recovery plans.

A city official stated, "The regional chemical accident response plan was established in accordance with the Chemical Substances Control Act," adding, "The regional chemical accident response plan will greatly help effectively prevent chemical accidents and promptly respond and recover if an accident occurs."
