20 Additional 'Smart Liquid Deicing Boxes' Installed in Seo-gu, Gwangju

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Shin Dong-ho] Seo-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (Mayor Kim I-gang) announced on the 6th that it has additionally installed 20 units of ‘Smart Liquid Deicing Boxes’ at 12 locations for snow removal on steep slope side roads, which were first installed in Gwangju and Jeonnam last year.

Previously, Seo-gu started with Yang 3-dong last year and has installed a total of 30 Smart Liquid Deicing Boxes in snow removal vulnerable areas including Yang-dong, Nongsung 2-dong, Hwajeong 1-dong, and Hwajeong 2-dong to date.

The ‘Smart Liquid Deicing Box’ is a deicing device that sprays brine solution remotely, providing high deicing effectiveness on steep slope sections of side roads where heavy snowfall makes it difficult for residents and vehicles to pass and where deicing vehicles have limited access.

It is also designed to automatically control the spraying via smartphones and computers by checking real-time road conditions, allowing related officials to monitor road status and spray deicing solution without having to go to the site directly.

Depending on the situation, residents can also perform manual spraying using the manual spray trigger for deicing work.

The ‘Living-Oriented Smart Deicing System Construction Case’ was recognized for contributing to winter resident safety by resolving repeated complaints about snow removal on sloped side roads in residential areas during heavy snowfall and preventing traffic accidents, and was selected as the best case at the Innovation Excellence Case Competition held on the 16th of last month.

A Seo-gu official said, “The Smart Liquid Deicing Box is very effective in preventing road icing, ensuring smooth vehicle traffic and minimizing inconvenience for residents’ passage,” adding, “We will do our best to ensure residents can spend the winter safely through additional installations in the future.”
