The First Female CEO Not from the Owner's Background
[Asia Economy Reporter Sunmi Park] Samsung Electronics has appointed a female president for the first time in its history. This is the first time a female president who is not from the Samsung owner family has emerged.
On the 5th, Samsung Electronics announced the 2023 regular executive promotion, reflecting its management philosophy that values talent and technology, with a total of nine appointments including seven president promotions and two changes in commissioned duties.
Younghee Lee, Head of the Global Marketing Center of the DX Division at Samsung Electronics, was promoted to president. Following her promotion, she is expected to demonstrate capabilities such as customer-centric marketing innovation and bring new vitality to the organization as Samsung Electronics' first female president.
Woojoon Kim, who was leading the Strategic Marketing Team of the Network Business Unit in the DX Division, was promoted from vice president to president of the Network Business Unit. By promoting a vice president who contributed to the growth of the network business to president, Samsung reflected its management philosophy that values talent and technology. Jaehyuk Song, Vice President and Head of the Semiconductor Research Center in the DS Division, was also promoted to president, serving as CTO of the DS Division and Head of the Semiconductor Research Center. This move is interpreted as a firm intention to strengthen future competitiveness in core businesses by promoting a vice president who contributed to the development and manufacturing capabilities of the semiconductor business to president.
In addition, Seokwoo Nam, President in charge of Global Manufacturing & Infrastructure Manufacturing at the DS Division, Suhyun Baek, President and Head of the Communication Team in the DX Division, Seunghui Park, President in charge of Corporate Relations (CR) at Samsung Electronics, and Geol Yang, President and Head of the China Strategy Cooperation Office, were also included in the list of promotions.
