Cheongung-II to Conduct First Live-Fire Test Abroad
One Missile Scheduled to Launch from Al Dhafra Air Base in Abu Dhabi
[Asia Economy Yang Nak-gyu, Military Specialist Reporter] The domestically produced medium-range surface-to-air guided missile ‘Cheongung-II’ (M-SAM2) will conduct its first live-fire test overseas on the 5th.
According to the military on this day, Air Force Chief of Staff Jeong Sang-hwa visited the UAE on the 3rd and is scheduled to observe the live-fire test of Cheongung-II, exported by LIG Nex1 and Hanwha Systems. The UAE and South Korea have established a close relationship in air defense weapon systems, signing a $3.5 billion (approximately 4.7 trillion KRW) export contract for Cheongung-II in January this year.
The live-fire test will involve launching one missile at Al Dhafra Air Base in Abu Dhabi. Last September, the Air Force participated in the multinational air defense and missile defense exercise ‘Falcon Shield’ command post exercise (CPX), transferring operational capabilities following the export of the weapon system.
