Wando-gun, Smooth Preparation for 2023 Jeonnam Provincial Sports Festival and Disabled Sports Festival

[Wando=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Kyungpil] Wando-gun, Jeollanam-do is accelerating preparations for the ‘62nd Jeollanam-do Sports Festival’ and the ‘31st Jeollanam-do Disabled Sports Festival’ to be held in May next year.

The ‘62nd Jeollanam-do Sports Festival’ will be held for 4 days from May 12 to May 15, 2023, featuring 24 events, and the ‘31st Jeollanam-do Disabled Sports Festival’ will take place for 3 days from May 24 to May 26, 2023, with 21 events.

It is expected that about 35,000 athletes, officials, and spectators will visit Wando during the event period.

Accordingly, the county held pre (pre) tournaments for practical inspection ahead of the official Jeonnam Sports Festival, starting with the ‘1st Wando Jangbogo Cup National Excellent Club Invitational Friendly Soccer Tournament’ in July, and as of November, has held competitions in three events, with a total of seven tournaments including volleyball and tennis scheduled to be held by December.

When all seven tournaments are held, about 10,000 athletes are expected to visit Wando-gun, bringing an estimated economic ripple effect of approximately 800 million won through the use of local businesses and consumption of specialty products.

Shin Woo-cheol, Wando County Governor, said, “We are making thorough preparations for next year’s sports festival by holding pre-tournaments to check the operation of each event and facilities, and we plan to improve shortcomings through close consultations with each sports association.” He added, “We will carefully check the preparation status such as game progress, transportation, and accommodation to support athletes so that they can compete in the best condition.”
