Gyeonggi-do, "Mandatory Installation of 'Enhanced Quarantine Facilities' for All Pig Farms by Year-End"
Fines of 1 to 8 Million KRW Imposed on Uninstalled Farms and Exclusion from Policy Funds and Other Disadvantages
[Asia Economy Reporter Ra Young-cheol] With the revised Livestock Infectious Disease Prevention Act Enforcement Rules set to be implemented nationwide from January 1 next year, all pig farms in Gyeonggi Province must mandatorily install 'enhanced quarantine facilities' by the end of December this year.
Until now, only pig farms within the African Swine Fever (ASF) intensive quarantine management zones were required to install 'enhanced quarantine facilities.' However, as ASF has spread extensively to Gyeongbuk and Chungbuk due to wild boars, the requirement has been expanded to all pig farms.
According to Gyeonggi Province on the 30th, the following are considered 'enhanced quarantine facilities': ▲anteroom ▲external fence ▲internal fence ▲quarantine room ▲goods entry facility ▲loading and unloading platform ▲insect-proof facilities and screens ▲livestock-related waste management facilities.
If these facilities are not installed, violators will be fined from a minimum of 1 million KRW to a maximum of 8 million KRW depending on the number of violations.
Farms without quarantine facilities will face disadvantages such as exclusion from various support projects, including livestock-related policy fund support and preventive vaccine support under livestock quarantine projects.
The province has secured a total budget of 4.2 billion KRW this year for quarantine infrastructure and is supporting pig farms within the province with closed-circuit television (CCTV) and other measures.
