Democratic Party: "Demanding Lee Sang-min's dismissal is a natural request... Not an excuse for the failure of the state audit"
[Asia Economy Reporter Naju-seok] The Democratic Party of Korea on the 28th rebutted the People Power Party’s opposition to the dismissal demand for Minister of the Interior and Safety Lee Sang-min and their refusal to conduct a state audit on the Itaewon disaster, calling it "nonsense." They criticized that the People Power Party is trying to sabotage the state audit under the pretext of demanding the minister’s dismissal.
Democratic Party Chief Spokesperson Ahn Ho-young stated in a written commentary that "the People Power Party is opposing the dismissal demand for Minister of the Interior and Safety Lee Sang-min and expressing their refusal to conduct the state audit," and added, "The idea of the People Power Party that the state audit can proceed but only the dismissal of Minister Lee Sang-min cannot is truly nonsensical."
Spokesperson Ahn said, "Along with uncovering the truth through the state audit, holding the responsible minister accountable for failing to fulfill his duties and causing a national tragedy is a perfectly natural measure," and asked, "How can demanding a rightful measure be called ignoring the spirit of consensus?"
He continued, "Their true intention to sabotage the state audit under the pretext of demanding Minister Lee’s dismissal has been revealed," criticizing the party.
Spokesperson Ahn also rebutted the People Power Party’s accusation that the Democratic Party is politicizing the disaster. He said, "It is the People Power Party that is politicizing the disaster," and added, "After delaying the state audit by stalling, are they now refusing the audit again using the dismissal demand for Minister Lee Sang-min as an excuse?"
