[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Jong-hwa] Eugene Group has launched smart donation activities using artificial intelligence (AI). On the 28th, Eugene Group announced that it held an internal online charity bazaar called 'Good Auction' to help marginalized neighbors.
Now in its 8th year, 'Good Auction' is a social contribution event where employees auction their cherished items internally and donate all or part of the winning bid amount. The auction proceeds are donated to the Community Chest of Korea's 'Hope Sharing Campaign' in the names of the employees.
To encourage active participation from employees, Eugene Group changes the concept of the auction each year to increase interest in donations. This year, inspired by the popularity of virtual influencers equipped with AI, an AI host was introduced for the live auction broadcast. The AI used in this Good Auction is a virtual human who does not actually exist, leading to some employees mistaking it for a real auctioneer, causing some amusing incidents.
To boost participation, Eugene Group produced teaser videos in advance and held participation events so that more employees could join the donation effort. The live auction, conducted through Eugene Group's YouTube channel 'Eugene Ever TV,' saw a 117% increase in participants compared to the previous year, reflecting high interest from employees.
Notably, this year, Eugene Group Chairwoman Yu Kyung-sun directly participated by contributing auction items, actively encouraging employees to maintain interest in sharing and donating despite difficult social conditions. Good Auction has become more than just a simple event among Eugene Group employees; it has established itself as a culture of donation. Rather than simply delivering donations, it adds the fun element of an auction, allowing each employee to become a subject of sharing and participate voluntarily.
An official from Eugene Group said, "Starting from a small event, Good Auction has become a representative social contribution activity of Eugene Group thanks to the participation and support of many employees," adding, "We plan to continue making efforts to carry out various social contribution activities to help create a better society for all."

Meanwhile, Eugene Group practices various group-level social contribution activities centered on the Hope Sharing Committee, the group's social contribution council. Recognizing these efforts, in 2020, major affiliates such as Eugene Corporation, Dongyang, and Eugene Investment & Securities were all listed as 'Sharing Excellence Companies' by the Community Chest of Korea.
