[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Jungnang-gu (Mayor Ryu Kyung-gi) has been operating the newly renovated Yongma Youth Reading Room since November.
The district announced that it transformed the Yongma Youth Reading Room, located in the Yongma Cultural Welfare Center, into a study cafe-style reading room, creating a comfortable learning space.
Built in 1991, the Yongma Youth Reading Room had outdated facilities causing inconvenience to the youth using it. The district conducted a survey among the youth and residents who use the reading room to gather public opinions, and incorporated interior space designs by young designers trained through the Seoul Design Consultant project, improving the reading room into a place students want to visit.
First, the latest trends were reflected. A study cafe-style space was created to foster a freer learning environment. The narrow and old desks in the study room were replaced with wider and taller ones to help students concentrate. The location of existing lockers was moved to allow convenient use of the corridor, and the computer room and lounge were also freshly renovated.
Youth can use the 92-seat study room freely for 500 won per day or 10,000 won per month. Adults can also use it for 1,000 won per day or 20,000 won per month.
The operating hours are from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. on weekdays and Saturdays, and from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Sundays and public holidays. The first and third Mondays of every month are regular closed days.
Ryu Kyung-gi, Mayor of Jungnang-gu, said, “I hope the youth reading room can help students who are struggling to find a place to study,” and added, “We will continue to develop and implement various policies for the youth, who are the future talents of the region.”
In addition, the district operates a total of three youth reading rooms, including the Yongma Youth Reading Room, the 106-seat Myeonmok Youth Reading Room, and the 112-seat Mangwoo Youth Reading Room. The Mangwoo and Myeonmok Youth Reading Rooms completed environmental improvement works last year, and with the completion of the Yongma Youth Reading Room, the environmental maintenance projects for all three locations have been finalized.
