Incheon City announced on the 26th that it will invest 1.9 billion KRW to demonstrate a total of 15 robots of 5 types, including guide, delivery, baking, wearable, and surveillance reconnaissance robots, at Bupyeong Station and the underground shopping mall by next year.
Incheon Technopark, Incheon Transit Corporation, Korea Electronics Technology Institute, Yujin Robot, and Syscon are participating.
Specifically, the surveillance reconnaissance robots will patrol inside the station, delivery robots will transport goods between stores in the underground shopping mall, baking robots will handle robot bread production, wearable robots will assist station staff and merchants with high-intensity and repetitive tasks, and guide robots will provide directions to visitors.
Previously, the city established the "Incheon AI·5G Robot Demonstration Support Center" to serve as a field base for robot demonstrations for this project.
Along with various demonstration robots inside the center, an integrated remote control system was also installed to collect and control robot sensor and video information in real time based on the 5G communication network.
The "AI·5G-based Large-scale Robot Demonstration Project," selected in May through a Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy public contest, aims to introduce robots into citizen-centric facilities such as shopping malls and large stations to enhance citizen convenience and foster specialized service robot companies through robot popularization.
