10 Siblings Found Dead in Incheon Villa; Parents in Brain Death... Suicide Note Discovered
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Daehyun] In Incheon, a family of four was found with teenage siblings dead and their parents in their 40s unconscious at a villa, prompting a police investigation.
According to the Incheon Western Police Station on the 26th, at around 11:41 a.m. the previous day, police and fire authorities discovered four family members, including teenage sibling A, collapsed at a villa in Seo-gu, Incheon.
A high school teacher of sibling A, who was enrolled at the time, could not reach A on the day of a scheduled field training and went directly to the house to report to 112. Responding to the police's joint request, the fire department forcibly opened the door and entered.
At that time, the entire family was lying in the master bedroom, and sibling A was found deceased. On the 24th, A had contacted the field training company by phone, saying "I have household matters, so it is difficult to go out," but on the previous day, it was confirmed that A did not go to work without any particular explanation. The younger sibling B, currently a first-year high school student, was understood not to have enrolled in high school after graduating from middle school last year.
The parents in their 40s, who were unconscious, received cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) from the 119 emergency medical team and were transported to a nearby hospital but are currently in a brain-dead state.
In front of the master bedroom of the residence, traces suggesting the possibility of an extreme choice were reportedly found. A will was also discovered, requesting that no funeral be held and that the bodies be cremated and scattered at sea. The family was not recipients of basic livelihood security benefits, but it was investigated that the couple had been experiencing financial difficulties due to the lack of steady employment.
An official from Seo-gu stated, "If a household has long-term arrears or non-payment of electricity and water bills, it is considered an abnormal sign and managed separately, but this family was not subject to that," adding, "They were not included in any welfare or support programs administratively managed by the local government."
The police have requested an autopsy from the National Forensic Service to determine the exact cause of death of the siblings. A police official said, "There were no signs of external intrusion or trauma," and "We are continuing to investigate the circumstances with the bereaved family."
