IAEA: "Ukraine Nuclear Plant Lost External Power... Restored Within a Day"
[Asia Economy New York=Special Correspondent Joselgina] The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) announced that all nuclear power plants in Ukraine, including the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant, were temporarily disconnected from the external power grid due to missile strikes by Russian forces but were restored within a day.
According to the IAEA on the 25th (local time), four Ukrainian nuclear power plants located in Zaporizhzhia, Rivne, South Ukraine, and Khmelnytskyi were disconnected from external power sources due to missile strikes by Russian forces between the 23rd and 24th.
Rafael Grossi, IAEA Director General, stated in a press release that "all four Ukrainian nuclear power plants were completely disconnected from the external power grid but have since been restored." Director General Grossi explained, "With the external power cut off, all four nuclear power plants were supplied power by emergency diesel generators, an unprecedented situation."
As Ukraine quickly restored the power grid connections, the blackout at the nuclear plants ended within a day. The IAEA has decided to dispatch personnel soon to inspect the facilities at the three other nuclear plants, in addition to the Zaporizhzhia plant where security experts are already stationed, following Ukraine's request to send experts to check operations.
The external power outage is attributed to the aftermath of Russia's missile attacks. Recently, Russia has been targeting Ukraine's energy infrastructure about once a week. On the 23rd, when the power was cut, Russian forces launched over 70 missiles across Ukraine.
