Ford Explains "Fire Risk Due to Fuel Injector Cracks"
Over 10 Million Vehicles Recalled in Last 2 Years Amid Consumer Complaints
[Asia Economy Culture Young Intern Reporter] Ford Motor Company in the United States is initiating a voluntary recall of 634,000 sport utility vehicles (SUVs) worldwide due to risks of fuel leakage and engine fires.
According to Reuters on the 24th (local time), the recall targets 2020-2023 Bronco Sport models and Escape models equipped with a 3-cylinder 1.5ℓ engine. Currently, there are 520,000 vehicles in the U.S. and 114,000 outside the U.S.
This recall aims to prevent engine compartment fires caused by fuel or fuel vapors leaking from cracked fuel injectors accumulating on hot surfaces.
Ford has received 54 reports of engine compartment fires so far, with cracked fuel injectors found in 4 of these cases. Additionally, there have been 13 reports suspected to be fires caused by fuel leakage and 4 claims of fires occurring while the engine was off.
Ford urged owners of the recalled vehicles to have their cars inspected but added that there is no immediate need to stop driving. They also explained that since the issue is very rare, it is safe to continue driving if no problems are detected.
