The on-site drill was attended by Kang Seong-woon, Deputy Governor of Wando, Heo Gung-hee, Chairman of Wando County Council, Jeong Yeon-woo, Commander of the 2nd Battalion of the 8539th Unit, and officials from 17 related organizations and groups. About 250 people, including around 70 teachers and students from Gunoe Middle School and Shinji Middle School, observed the drill.
The drill was conducted assuming a marine vessel fire accident that could occur near Wando Port, aiming to establish an organic cooperative response system among related organizations. Seven patrol boats, two high-speed launches, one Coast Guard helicopter, one mock ship, one rescue boat, ambulances, and quarantine vehicles were mobilized, creating a scenario resembling an actual situation.
Additionally, the drill was meticulously carried out following the disaster response process, including accident reporting and initial situation dissemination, response, rescue and emergency measures, and recovery, utilizing the disaster safety communication network.
First, through the disaster message delivered by the head of the Wando-gun Disaster Safety Countermeasures Headquarters (Governor Shin Woo-cheol), rapid initial response was ensured from the first fire report to dispatch to the scene.
Next, a systematic command line was established to prepare for large-scale disasters by operating an on-site integrated support headquarters and setting up an emergency medical station. A collaboration system among civilian, government, military, and police sectors was activated for rescue, fire suppression, casualty transport, recovery, and restoration.
Shin Woo-cheol, Governor of Wando-gun, said, "Through this drill, we will further strengthen the disaster response cooperation system among related organizations and groups and re-examine the on-site command and control manual to respond swiftly to disaster situations. We will do our best to build a safe Wando by developing the capability to respond flawlessly to any disaster."
Meanwhile, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) education was provided to students of Gunoe and Shinji Middle Schools to raise their safety awareness.
