On that day, the committee members unanimously criticized the deficiencies in the major administrative report from the Culture and Arts Department, questioning whether the necessity of project changes had been thoroughly reviewed and whether efforts had been made to resolve procedural conflicts.
The city is currently in the detailed design phase for the construction of the Gyeongnam eSports permanent stadium. Due to a significant increase in project costs, the original new construction plan has been completely revised. The plan now involves leasing the 1st-floor Jinong Hall and the 2nd-floor Art Hall of the 100th Anniversary Memorial Hall at Gyeongsang National University to remodel them as the main and auxiliary stadiums, respectively. The facilities for company tenants and ancillary facilities are planned to utilize the 14th and 15th floors.
During the site visit, at a meeting with Kwon Soon-ki, President of Gyeongsang National University, Hwang Jin-seon, Chairperson of the Planning and Culture Committee, said, “We ask the school to make sufficient efforts to communicate with campus members and resolve conflicts,” adding, “For Jinju to foster future promising industries, the project must proceed based on ample public discussion, opinion gathering, and expert review.”

President Kwon stated, “Earlier this year, the Gyeongsang National University Student Council proposed attracting an eSports stadium. To overcome the university’s crisis due to declining school-age population and to ensure the long-term development of the integrated Gyeongsang National University, it is necessary to revitalize facility operations through the installation of the Gyeongnam eSports permanent stadium,” and added, “We will strive to resolve conflicts related to the permanent stadium installation well, enhancing the promotional effect of attracting students to Gyeongsang National University and improving its leading image.”
