The completion ceremony was attended by Jo Myung-rae, 2nd Vice Mayor of Changwon Special City, Lee Chan-ho, member of the Gyeongsangnam-do Provincial Assembly, Jeong Gil-sang, Chairman of the Culture, Environment and City Committee of Changwon City Council and committee members, and Kim Dong-woon, Head of the Busan-Ulsan-Gyeongnam Environmental Headquarters of the Korea Environment Corporation.
The project, with a total budget of 33.2 billion KRW, was started in June 2020 in the Sinchon-dong area of Seongsan-gu through a consignment agreement with the Korea Environment Corporation, a specialized environmental facility institution, and was completed in November this year.
The food waste leachate bioenergy facility is an eco-friendly energy facility that stably treats high-concentration food waste leachate (200 tons/day) generated from food waste treatment plants, improves water quality, and produces electricity from biogas generated during the treatment process, aligning with the government's waste resource energy and resource circulation policy framework.
It is expected that 12,700 N㎥ of biogas will be produced daily, generating about 24 MWh/day of electricity through power generation facilities. The electricity produced will be used internally, and the surplus power will be sold.

Hong Nam-pyo, Mayor of Changwon Special City, said, “The facility not only reduces the pollution load of food waste leachate, contributing to the improvement of the marine environment of Masan Bay, but also is an eco-friendly energy facility that produces electricity from biogas generated during the treatment process. I am very pleased that the project has been successfully completed.” He added, “We will continue to promote proactive resource circulation policies to protect citizens' health and do our best to create a safe and pleasant urban environment.”
