Yeonggwang-gun Wins Award for Excellence in 'Living in the Countryside' Program Hosted by the Rural Development Administration
[Yeonggwang=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Jeonseong] Yeonggwang-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Kang Jongman) announced on the 23rd that it won an award by participating in the ‘2022 Rural Living Best Practice Presentation’ hosted by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs and organized by the Korea Agency of Education, Promotion and Information Service in Food, Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries on the 22nd.
This year, the Rural Living program was operated in a total of 119 villages nationwide, and a total of 11 villages were given the opportunity to present their best practices in rural living.
The ‘Project-type Rural Living’ promoted by the county refers to a program operated for young people under the age of 40, where participants plan and carry out projects to settle in agricultural and fishing villages, allowing them to experience rural life and explore employment and start-up opportunities together.
This program, operated by the Yeonggwang-gun Regional Tourism Council, was conducted over about six months from April to last month targeting six young participants, and the best practice presentation was delivered by Im Geonho (29 years old, Gwangju Metropolitan City), a participant of the first cohort representing Yeonggwang-gun.
The county won an award as the only best practice among the ‘project-type’ operating villages in Jeollanam-do this year.
Cha Sanghyuk, representative of the Yeonggwang-gun Regional Tourism Council, said, “We are honored to participate in this year’s Rural Living Best Practice Presentation,” and added, “We hope to continue to serve as a positive bridge for returning farmers and rural migrants through such programs.”
