[Asia Economy Reporter Ki-min Lee] On the 21st, President Yoon Suk-yeol instructed his presidential office staff, "From now on, all overseas trips should be conducted according to the business issues of companies, except for urgent national security matters such as Korea-US-Japan security cooperation."
Lee Jae-myung, deputy spokesperson of the presidential office, stated at a briefing held at the Yongsan Presidential Office building in the afternoon that President Yoon said this during the chief secretary meeting he presided over that morning. President Yoon emphasized that the reason for the president's overseas trips is "to contribute to the national interest by creating jobs for the people through companies' overseas expansion."
President Yoon also shared recent diplomatic achievements such as the Southeast Asia tour, the meeting with Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman of Saudi Arabia, and the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit during his regular meeting with Prime Minister Han Duck-soo. President Yoon told Prime Minister Han, "I truly realized that the international political arena is a ruthless battlefield where countries protect their own security and seek future growth engines," and emphasized, "I will personally preside over export strategy meetings and ensure that the outcomes of summit diplomacy are concretized through tailored strategies by region and country."
In addition to overseas trips, there were orders regarding responses to labor-management issues. President Yoon expressed concern about the Cargo Solidarity's collective transport refusal, the railway union, and the strike warnings from school irregular workers, saying, "Listen carefully to the demands on the ground until the last moment and engage in dialogue, but respond strictly according to law and principles to illegal acts," and urged, "Make thorough preparations for alternative measures to prevent harm to the public and companies."
Prime Minister Han reported to President Yoon that he would make every effort for proactive risk management to prevent the recent real estate market downturn from leading to financial market instability such as real estate project financing (PF). In response, President Yoon said, "Meticulous monitoring and proactive response, even to an excessive degree, are important," and urged, "Please work to stabilize the real estate market fundamentally by normalizing excessive real estate regulations such as real estate taxation and loan restrictions."
Regarding follow-up measures for the Itaewon crowd crush disaster, President Yoon instructed, "There must be no shortcomings in supporting the bereaved families and victims," and said, "Do your best to support every single person, centered on the one-stop support center." President Yoon also emphasized, "Revealing the substantive truth of the incident through investigation is a duty to the bereaved families and the public," and stressed, "It is important to ascertain the substantive truth to ensure that the bereaved families receive rightful compensation."
President Yoon sent a reply to Crown Prince and Prime Minister bin Salman of Saudi Arabia, who visited Korea last week. President Yoon said, "The Crown Prince's visit to Korea became an important milestone that propelled bilateral relations forward," and added, "We will pursue close cooperation to realize Saudi Vision 2030."
Earlier, Crown Prince bin Salman expressed gratitude for President Yoon's hospitality as he left Seoul. According to the Saudi state news agency SPA, the Crown Prince emphasized in a telegram, "Through dialogue, we solidified the strong relationship between the two countries and confirmed our shared desire to strengthen cooperation in all fields in a way that serves the interests of the peoples of both Korea and Saudi Arabia within the framework of 'Korea-Saudi Vision 2030.'"
