An AED is a medical device that automatically analyzes the condition of a cardiac arrest patient and delivers a strong electric shock in a short moment to restore normal heartbeat. It can be used quickly and easily by ordinary people, not just medical professionals, in emergency situations.
According to the Ministry of Health and Welfare, performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and using an AED within the golden time of 4 to 6 minutes after cardiac arrest can increase the survival rate up to 80%. In particular, the survival rate is about three times higher compared to performing only CPR.
The inspection targets 312 AEDs installed in mandatory installation institutions, and the city will conduct the inspection through on-site and written checks. On-site inspections will target public health medical institutions and apartment complexes with 500 or more households, while written inspections will target ships and others.
The main inspection items include identifying the AED installation status, checking normal operation, replacing maintenance consumables, designating and educating management personnel, and conducting monthly self-inspections.
Minor issues found during the inspection will be corrected immediately on-site, and administrative measures such as fines will be imposed for legal violations such as inadequate equipment installation.
