Honam University Stands Out at the Korean Multimedia Society Fall Conference
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Students from the Department of Computer Engineering at Honam University announced on the 21st that they won the External Institution Head Award and the Grand Prize at the ‘2022 Fall Academic Conference of the Korea Multimedia Society’ held at Yuseong Hotel in Daejeon on the 18th and 19th.
At this conference, where a total of 250 papers were presented, the Department of Computer Engineering at Honam University presented 14 undergraduate papers. Fourth-year student Kim Youngwook (advisor Professor Baek Ran) received the External Institution Head Award (Busan Design Promotion Agency Director’s Award), and fourth-year student Park Jaewoo along with four others (advisor Professor Moon Heejeong) won the Grand Prize in the Undergraduate Capstone Competition (out of 90 entries).
In particular, Kim Youngwook’s project, which won the Institution Head Award, titled ‘Development of an AR Business Card Platform Based on Image Tracking,’ was highly praised for showcasing technology one step ahead of existing business card software. The Grand Prize-winning project by Park Jaewoo and four others, ‘Proposal of a Smart Recycling Bin Using AI-Based Object Recognition,’ received high scores in the preliminary evaluation for its creative idea proposal.
Additionally, in the on-site presentation, third-year student Kim Gaeun’s ‘Algorithm Analysis Based on Dalle-2’ was praised by the evaluating professors as “a very impressive and excellent challenge on the latest technology.”
Moreover, two other papers from the Department of Computer Engineering at Honam University were preliminarily selected for the Conference Chair Award, and they are awaiting final results after being selected as excellent papers in the on-site presentation, which accounts for 10% of the total.
Professor Baek Ran, who participated in the on-site event, said, “It is the first time in this conference that we have achieved the honor of being selected for both the Institution Head Award and the Grand Prize in the competition through preliminary evaluation among many papers. I also thank the faculty members of the department who have worked tirelessly in unity with the students.”
The Korea Multimedia Society, founded in 1997, is a nationwide academic society under the Ministry of Science and ICT with about 8,444 active members. It has developed into the largest society in Korea in the fields of multimedia and IT technology applications.
In particular, in the 2021 status evaluation, it was ranked third overall among electrical, electronic, and information-related societies based on citation and IMPACT index of papers.
