[Asia Economy Reporter Chunhee Lee] AI MedTech company Waycen has become the first medical AI company to win four CES Innovation Awards ahead of the world’s largest electronics exhibition, the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2023, held in Las Vegas, USA, in January next year.
According to the CES 2023 Innovation Award results announced on the 16th (local time) by the Consumer Technology Association (CTA), which organizes CES, Waycen’s three products?WAYMED Cough, WAYMED Endo PRO, and WAYMED EBUS?received Innovation Awards. WAYMED Endo PRO won in the Digital Health category, WAYMED EBUS in the Software & Mobile Applications category, and WAYMED Cough won in both the Digital Health and Software & Mobile Applications categories, achieving four awards in total. CTA evaluates entries in advance and awards the 'Innovation Award' ahead of the CES exhibition held every January.
WAYMED Cough is the world’s first AI self-screening app service that allows users to check their respiratory health status through a smartphone app. It uses voice and cough sounds as biomarkers to inform users about their health condition. It was developed through joint research with Professor Munkyung Min’s respiratory medicine team at Gangneung Asan Hospital and Dr. Jinhee Jeon, CEO of JIMT. Based on AI, it analyzes users’ respiratory health and enables anyone to easily manage their respiratory health.
WAYMED Endo, which integrates AI technology into gastrointestinal endoscopy and also won an Innovation Award at CES 2022 in January, has been named an Innovation Award winner for two consecutive years through advanced collaborative diagnosis technology. It was developed through joint research with Professor Jihyun Kim of the Gastroenterology Department at Gangnam Severance Hospital. During endoscopic examinations, AI detects abnormal areas such as elevations or depressions in real time, allowing medical staff to immediately identify suspicious regions. WAYMED Endo PRO further enables global collaborative diagnosis. Currently, a pilot project is underway where endoscopic examination data from Vietnam can be reviewed at Gangbuk Samsung Hospital in Seoul to facilitate collaborative diagnosis.
WAYMED EBUS is a solution that analyzes bronchial ultrasound endoscopy (EBUS) images in real time to determine malignant lung cancer metastasis. It was jointly developed with the respiratory medicine research team of Professors Eunyoung Kim and Seunghyun Yong at Severance Hospital. Recognized for its innovation, it supports selecting lymph nodes requiring biopsy by applying AI technology to the time- and effort-intensive EBUS examination, significantly reducing time and costs.
