Yeosu City Signs Public-Private-Academic MOU for '2050 Carbon Neutrality' and 'COP33 Hosting'
Yeosu City, Jeollanam-do, Jeollanam-do Office of Education, and (Sa) Carbon Neutral Practice Solidarity Promise Continued Cooperation
[Yeosu=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Cheol-hoon] Jeollanam-do Yeosu City (Mayor Jeong Gi-myeong) announced on the 16th that it signed a mutual cooperation memorandum of understanding with Jeollanam-do, Jeollanam-do Office of Education, and the Carbon Neutral Practice Solidarity Association to achieve ‘2050 Carbon Neutrality’ and to attract the ‘33rd UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP33).’
The signing ceremony was attended by Jeong Gi-myeong, Mayor of Yeosu, Lee Beom-woo, Director of Climate Ecology Division of Jeollanam-do, Seo Geum-yeol, Superintendent of Yeosu Office of Education, Kim Young-joo, Co-representative of the Carbon Neutral Practice Solidarity Association, and officials in charge from each organization.
At the ceremony, each organization promised to establish a continuous mutual cooperation system to realize 2050 carbon neutrality and to attract COP33 to the southern coast and southern central region.
In particular, they set common goals of ▲spreading a culture of carbon neutrality practice ▲nurturing climate and environmental talents ▲building governance among institutions and organizations, and agreed to continue administrative support for information exchange and promotional activities.
Mayor Jeong Gi-myeong said, “Achieving carbon neutrality requires a change in awareness and active participation efforts from all members of our society. Through this agreement, we expect to create great synergy by forming an organic cooperation system among the public, private, and academic sectors.”
He added, “COP33 is a forum for all humanity to prepare a new paradigm in the era of climate crisis. The southern coast and southern central region will definitely attract COP33 and establish a foothold to leap forward as a global city leading climate change response.”
